  • What are your check-in / check-out times?

    Our standard check-in time is 4pm and standard check-out is 10am

    We cannot offer late check-out but occasionally can offer limited early checkins (midday) for a £40 fee. This is not always possible though so please ask as soon as possible.

  • Booking deposit and balance - when does balance become due?

    • On booking we take a 50% deposit, the balance is due 1 month before your arrival date. 
    • The booking system will send a payment request automatically at this time with a link for you to pay.
    • If your arrival is within 1 month of the time you book, the whole balance will be due upon booking.
  • What are your cancellation policies?

  • What is provided? Do we need to bring anything?

    We provide:
    • all bed linen
    • 1 bath towel & 1 hand towel per guest
    • 1 bathmat per bath or shower room
    • Highland Soap Co. hand wash & creme for the bath/ shower rooms
    • 2x toilet rolls per bath / shower room
    In the kitchen we provide:
    • oven gloves
    • tea towels
    • dish cloth
    • pot scrubber
    • dish brush
    • washing up liquid
    • dish washer tablets
    On arrival we provide:
    • biscuits
    • tea
    • coffee
    • sugar
    • small jug of milk
    • salt / pepper / spice selection
    For wood burning stoves and fire-pits we provide:
    • matches,
    • fire-lighters,
    • some kindling (a small axe is provided to chop your own)
    • ample firewood on a fair-usage basis
    For hot tub & sauna we provide:
    • towels
    • sauna robes (for the sauna only).
    You will need to bring
    • All of your own food and drink - the accommodation is self-catering and there are no food or drink outlets onsite
    • We recommend bringing sufficient clothes suited to the time of year in Scotland - this may mean warm clothes and waterproofs!
  • How far are you from Edinburgh?

    We are 13 miles from central Edinburgh (Waverly Station) and 15 miles from Edinburgh Airport.

  • Can I get to Eastside without a car?

    Rural public transport in Scotland is limited and so it's more difficult to access Eastside without a car. It's not impossible - but you'll need to walk the last mile. If you plan to do this in winter, please dress for the weather.

    Houston's bus service will take you to the end of our farm track (ask for Eastside Farm bus stop). On their timetable, it's close to Silverburn. From the bus stop, the accommodation is a 1 mile walk up the farm track.

  • Where's the nearest supermarket?

  • Can I get a supermarket delivery?

    Yes. Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Waitrose will deliver here.

    Please ensure that you will present for the delivery.

  • We'll arrive late in the evening - where's the nearest restaurant?

  • What’s the best way into Edinburgh?

  • Is there a taxi service to Eastside?

    The only taxi we recommend is Frazer Howie, Penicuik Private Hire on 07583791282 or 01968 675 484. 

    These must be booked in advance. 

    Please avoid Rab’s Cabs!

  • How do I book the sauna?

    • The wood-fired sauna is located at Eastside for guests of the Byre, Steading, Cartshed & Wash House.
    • Instructions on how to book a sauna session are provided upon arrival at Eastside.
    • The sauna is open on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays at preset times (though we reserve the right to change this as appropriate - for example over Christmas / New Year).
    • On these days, private 2hr sessions are available to book.
    • 1 complimentary session per accommodation booking is available for guests who book accommodation directly through our website (we give a code to use when booking the sauna).
    • Otherwise, sauna sessions cost £40.
    • The sauna holds a maximum of 6 people.
    • We prepare and heat the sauna so that it is ready for the booked time.
    • Please be punctual for your booking (if left unattended, the fire will start to cool).
  • Is there a hot tub?

    There is a wood-fired hot tub located at the Woodshed for Woodshed guests' exclusive use. The hot tub is DIY - kindling and firewood are provided.
