There are several ways to get into Edinburgh from Eastside - it's not far. There's even a bus stop at the end of the farm track.
"Park & Ride" by bus, train, or tram to take advantage of free parking - or drive into town and park on our recommended streets or carparks.
Alternatively, take a taxi using our recommended driver. Whichever suits you, we've got you covered.
Park & Ride options
It can be less stressful to park the car on the outskirts of Edinburgh and travel into the centre on the city's excellent bus network.
The official "Park & Rides" are, unfortunately, not well serviced with busses - so it may be best to park on residential streets that have free parking in areas with a good bus service to the centre.

Tram to Edinburgh City Centre from Ingliston Park & Ride
The tram is a fairly quick and easy way into the city centre. It's best to park for free at the Ingliston Park & Ride and then walk to the tram stop.
Download the Lothian bus and tram phone app for tram tracker information, route planning, and ticket purchases. Trams are roughly every 10 minutes.

Bus from the farm road end
Although slightly infrequent, busses will stop at the bus stop at the end of Eastside farm track (1 mile / 1.6 km walk from the cottages). This is serviced by Houstons, bus 101. The timetable is here.
The nearest bus stop that is actually shown on the timetable is Silverburn, half a mile closer to Edinburgh. They will take a payment card on the bus itself.
When returning, ask the driver to stop at "Eastside Farm" and take great care when crossing the road.

Parking in Edinburgh
There are many carparks in Edinburgh city centre - we list a few here. They're often more expensive than on-street parking but give the peace of mind of not risking a parking fine and you may be able to park for longer.
On-street parking is possible but read notices carefully - the wardens are infamously strict and the notices can be difficult to interpret. Prices vary by street, as does the length of time you may stay. For example, if you don't mind a short walk, parking on Queen Street Gardens or Heriot Row is cheaper than more central streets.
Use the Ringo App for reminders and the ability to ‘top up’ parking time and reminders for when your time expires.

On-street parking: Queen Street Gardens
Queen Street Gardens & Heriot Row are cheaper than the city centre carparks but beware - Edinburgh's parking wardens are strict! It's easy to get a fine, even for just a few minutes over the paid time.
That said, the Ringo app is easy to use. Pay for parking with your card via the app. Use the location number displayed on meters positioned along the street.
